What does PDGF stand for?
PDGF refers to “Platelet-Derived Growth Factor.” The platelets in our blood primarily help with clotting. They also contain powerful growth factors. These substances are renowned for their tissue-regenerating and wound-healing capabilities.
Is PDGF the same as PRP or PRF?
While all of these blood derivatives are used in cosmetic applications and medicine, they are not the same. Platelet-Rich Plasma and Platelet-Rich Fibrin both require a blood draw, as these injectable solutions are made from your blood. PDGF does not require a blood draw. This formulation can be made in a lab. Additionally, PDGF is a highly concentrated and generally more potent product than either PRP or PRF. PDGF is also made to the strictest quality, safety, and purity standards. It can provide intense and predictable tissue repair and regeneration.
What does PDGF treat?
PDGF can work wonders on areas of the face that have sustained volume loss, such as the tear troughs under the eyes. It may also be appropriate for areas of laxity, including crepiness on the neck and nasolabial folds or “smile lines” that form around the nose and mouth. It is often paired with other aesthetic services as a means of enhancing the treatment results and accelerating and encouraging healing.
How does PDGF work?
PDGF is a biostimulator. What this means is it doesn’t simply inject vital substances into hollow, wrinkled areas. PDGF and other treatments like it are made from substances that actually stimulate the production of proteins, collagen, and elastin. In youthful skin, these proteins are plentiful. As we age, however, our body produces less of them. With the loss of firming collagen and bouncy elastin, your skin loses its plumpness and flexibility. You may notice loose, creased, and sunken areas. By triggering the production of collagen and elastin, we can naturally and effectively rebuild the skin’s structure. So, it has a tightening and plumping effect.
Why should I consider PDGF?
For the right patients, PDGF treatments offer many benefits. As a biostimulator, PDGF supports long-lasting results. It helps rebuild your skin, after all. The injections themselves are not unlike other injectable cosmetic treatments in that they can be administered quickly, in a minimally invasive manner, and are well-tolerated. Simply put, PDGF helps your skin to heal and regenerate itself.
